Anti-Aging Procedures: What Your Dermatologist Can Do For You

by Ellen Lucas

When it comes to skincare, the primary worry of just about any woman is preventing the signs of aging on her skin. Cosmeceuticals (anti-aging products) are all the rage among women of all ages, as women strive to look as youthful as possible. However, in addition to these products available on store shelves, there are several anti-aging procedures that a cosmetic dermatologist can perform to help your skin look far younger and fresher. Get to know some of the options that cosmetic dermatology has to offer you, and give them a try when you want to freshen up your skin next.

Non-Surgical Facelifts

If you want your skin to look tighter and firmer but would prefer not to go under the knife, you can still get the results you want through a non-surgical facelift. Non-surgical facelifts use ultrasound technology to help tighten the skin on the neck, chin, and brows.

The ultrasound waves are used to stimulate the growth of collagen in the face. Collagen gives skin plumpness and elasticity making your face look firmer, more toned, and more youthful. The ultrasound therapy stimulates that collagen growth. Your cosmetic dermatologist will also use ultrasound imagery to get pictures of the layers of skin to determine the effectiveness of the treatments and areas that need further treatment.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a treatment that can also help with the aging process. This procedure uses a machine to essentially give the skin a thorough exfoliation. Exfoliation removes dead or damaged skin cells from the surface of the skin, leaving a fresh, new layer of skin in its place.

Microdermabrasion uses either crystals or diamonds to get a deeper exfoliating experience and remove all dead skin cells from your face. This procedure can leave your skin quite sensitive and a little red or irritated for a day or so afterward. However, with the use of a quality moisturizer after the procedure and repeatedly over the next few days, you will minimize this discomfort and be left with younger, fresher skin.

There are microdermabrasion kits that are available to purchase in stores and use at home. However, the machines are not nearly as powerful and precise as those used in a cosmetic dermatologist's office. And, the crystals or diamonds used in the doctor's office are of a far higher quality than what is available for purchase.

Going to the cosmetic dermatologist for non-surgical anti-aging procedures can get you the results that you are looking for. So, if you are looking for more youthful, vibrant skin, give these options a try.
